OUTSOURCING

This is the article I found, and my summary of it. [article]

An increasingly competitive global marketplace and a struggling worldwide economy have many business owners looking for more ways to streamline operations. One way that several businesses have found success in in outsourcing their IT needs. Quality: A large concern when the idea of outsourcing comes up is the quality of service and staffing that the company will receive. In house staff tend to have some experience and a little training if a business owner gets lucky in the hiring process. Conversely, most IT staffing firms maintain a stable of industry experts who have many years of experience and training. In summary, the truth is that you are more likely to get higher quality individuals working for your company if you outsource.Cost: Up front, outsourcing IT needs seems like it would be expensive and may make business owners wary to do it. Beyond salaries, you have to consider the ongoing costs of training and insurance as well as the time and money required to hire in-house staff in the first place.Personal Service: Business owners are often drawn to in-house staff because they believe that personnel that spend all day every day in their office will know exactly what is needed and how to deliver it. However, IT staffing firms have the benefit of having individuals that work with many other businesses like yours. In-house staff may have to undergo a large amount of training to get up to speed with the best technology because they do not work with it on a daily basis. IT consultants, on the other hand, do not. IT consultants also have the advantage of having much more experience getting the right kind of data that a business needs to improve processes due to their ability to separate themselves from the business.. IT consultants can provide anything from basic IT advice to custom software that is designed specifically for your business.IT staffing firms offer the highest quality, most personalized service you can ask for that will save you both time and money.

  1. Well I looked for some pros and cons of outsourcing, I found many sites that had forums so I could read about the different opinions of this subject. In conclusion I think everything has its cons and pros, and outsourcing is no exception, so here they are:
-Often outsourcing is used to save money, but you can have unexpected costs too.
    -I's a cheaper labor
    -Lower labor training costs
    -Increase productivity

    -Employees feel threatened
    -Security issues
    -Lower quality work

This is an interesting subject to investigate, it made me see the the different sides that companies have when it's about the jobs and the people they hire. I personally think that they should'n do that, becasue people work for money, they shouldn't take advantage and go to places where are jobs with poor salaries.

  3. well.. I agree with Marayana in the Pro's, it's cheap and cool! I've read some things about this outsourcing thing, and while it does bring some bad consequences sometimes, it can also be good and magical ;D I'd do it myself, as Mariana says, it's cheaper! you save, and productivity increases! yes, maybe employees feel "threatened" if you put it like that, but wth, even though I've read some bad cases on outsourcing, I still like it

Mr. CÉSAR i can't figure out how to edit the post, I access the "editar entradas" part and that and select this but nothing happens, I'll try again tomorrow ok? If you check this before I can post, I'd appreciate it if you could please check again a little later... thank you!

  4. Well I think outsourcing like antrhing it can be good anf bad.
It does have a lot of pros for example it costs less but it also is bad because the workers don´t get much money because of the country the outsource is.
I think that it is good in the way that it cna help your company grow and be international but also it can be bad becuase of the workers being payed less even if they don´t know it becuase of the countries income, and it also makes workers feel threatened and it could make then quit their job. And probably the main concern of a business man should worry about is the efficiency of the service a costumer gets when it calls for service (for example questions about he(shes) computer).
To me that would be the main concern if I had a business anf wanted to outsource.

  5. Well Mariana I agree with you becuase as you said everything has pros and cons.
And it is good in the way that is saves money and you are right about people wanting to work in anything as long as they get payed(specially know becuase of the money crisis in the world). So in a way companies should take advantage in that to offer more jobs and opportunities for people looking for work.

  6. Cesar I think your right in the way that is gives a company more productivity and saves money and that way the company grows, But,What about the people? I mean what if someone calls for some questions about a product they bought
and they don´t get the same service or help because she called and the answering guy was in china and the management there is different than the companies place of origin.

I think there is a lot to think about and it is an interesting topic :)

  7. Yes, Pris I see what you mean. It's like saying that people don't treat a cold in the same way here than they do in India, for example. But I suppose that in these cases they have the same policies and management.
The service is supposed to be the same. Just ask Mr. César about his former job, I assume he gave the same service and response to people calling from the US than they would have gotten if calling their own country. They get some kind of capacitacion, or don't they?
I know this might be a bit off topic but, let's take for instance franchises. Have you ever been to "VH"? It's pretty dirty and so NOT organized right? Opened boxes, toys, marbles rolling everywhere... On the other hand, have you been to Wal-Mart? OK maybe it's not the prettiest place on Earth but if you compare it with VH, it's very well organized, it does not have the flaws that VH or Ley have. It IS decent. I'm guessing that could be because it is a franchise and to have a franchise you need to have the same policies they had in place of origin. Wal-Mart in USA isn't dirty, so it shouldn't be dirty here either.
I think the outsourcing would be a little like that... I can always be wrong, though.

  8. Well, I couldn't find a decent article to post so I'll start from answering what you've been saying. From my own point of view, outsourcing is pretty good. It saves a loooooot of money and lets the company focus in really important stuff. For example, there's a company of making computers, they can hire another company in charge of the money (contadores). My cousin works in a magazine called Nueva Imagen en Blanco y Negro, but she doesn't actually work FOR the magazine, she's just in charge of the "contaduría" and she works in an independent company. I don't know if you get it.

  9. Priscilla, i get your example of what if you buy a product and you call for help and a guy answers you from China. Ok, that maybe it's "wrong" but that's not the only way of outsourcing. And, I also know that it may have bad things, but personally I find it very useful. If you had a company maybe you could hire another one to make you the cleaning. Like in our school, there's another company working on the cleaning of school. UVM doesn't hire its own janitors.

  10. Something bad about it that I can agree with you guys is that big companies take advantage of poor countries. I once saw an e-mail with photos of a well-known shoe store. The store was beautiful and huge, and the shoes were awesome! Then, there are pics of the workers who made the shoes. They were from India or somewhere near there. They all worked in a very small factory, all dirty, with mice and in very bad conditions. It says that they worked all day long with a very small break just for eating. You could see the material they were using to make the shoes and the actual price, (it was like 15dlls). In the store they sold the shoes in 250dlls. So, they pay a very low salary to the workers and still sell the shoe in very high prices.

  11. OK since I'm done with my two comment responses, now I'll give my opinion about outsourcing! But first I must say that I was kind of shocked with that shoe store example, COOL!
About outsourcing, I have not much left to say because what I've mentioned what I think in my other comments and my article. I can only say that, just like everything it has pros and cons but that I think the pros are stronger than the bad things. If used wisely, it can improve companies a lot and without any need of abusing like the above example. Yeah!
    Hail the Outsourcing Bunnies :3

  12. but Cesar I don't get your point of the Walmart - VH example..

I can tell if outsourcing is good or bad, because its depending on the point of wiew, like everything. If I were a worker [slave] ofcourse I would say that outsourcing is bad because I work alot, and I'm not making many money, but if I'm the president of a big USA comapny, well, im rich because of outsourcing, so its very good.

  13. ok that's because i wasn't talking about outsourcing I was telling Priscilla why it wouldn't be that different, here's her comment "...and they don´t get the same service or help because she called and the answering guy was in china

your thoughts are really good Lissette :)
